Microsoft is looking for an experienced
commercial Software Initiative (CSI) Lead. The CSI Lead is the voice of opennness and interoperability at Microsoft. The role at Microsoft brings unique skills and perspective to the business and is the subsidiary's subject:matter:expert on Open Source Software (OSS): the industry; its business, development and licensing models and the overall market landscape with regards to OSS. The CSI lead is an expert on how Microsoft adopts and engages with open source models and communities, working with OSS developers to optimize OSS on Microsoft's platforms, while also understanding and monitoring open source solutions that compete with our products. Consequently, the CSI lead has a unique, cross:segment, cross:product, cross:audience and cross:industry perspective.
A role:model CSI lead brings strategic insight and leadership to the subsidiary's management team. CSI Leads are adept at external engagement, positively influencing diverse audiences and building relationships with key local influencers to positively change perceptions with regards to Microsoft and open source technologies. The core of CSI Lead's role is to win mind:share so that we win market:share. The CSI lead will ensure that key local spokespeople can tell the Microsoft open source story and will engage directly, where necessary, to help secure strategic opportunities thus demonstrating ability to drive growth.
The CSI lead is expected to lead the field's engagement in strategic areas where we compete with open source, for example cloud computing, identifying gaps in readiness and helping the subsidiary leadership team to meet their sales objectives and long:term growth goals.
The CSI lead will develop, in conjunction with the relevant local leadership teams, an account engagement strategy that supports the fiscal goals and addresses existing and emergent OSS technology and policy issues that impact Microsoft's business model and capacity to grow. These engagement strategies will have a significant and material impact on each subsidiarys fiscal, mid, and long term growth prospects and will recognize that a failure to address OSS technology adoption and emerging technology can lead to lack of business growth, government policy making, and intervention that severely restricts Microsoft's freedom of action in its local markets and around the world. Being able to identify and drive awareness of how we compete and react accordingly will be a key pillar in the success of the role.
To be successful, the CSI lead is responsible for external outreach and engagement with customers, partners, leading academics and government decision makers across the Area with the objective of sales growth and the creation, or maintenance, of an environment which supports the agreed subsidiarys objectives.
