SUMMARY POSITION DESCRIPTION:

You will form an integral part of a team of Systems Management Tooling support specialists who deploy, configure and maintain the relevant agents, tools and reporting services for systems management of mission critical global banking systems and applications. Products currently used in the services provision are primarily (but not limited to) BMC Patrol, SNMP and MIBS, Tivoli such as ITM 5.x, ITM 6.x, Netview, TEC, ITCM. Other tools where experience is valued include CA-Unicenter, HP-OpenView, MOM, and other Systems management tools for monitoring, availability and event management.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITY:

To provide best in class deployment, configuration and maintenance support for systems management tolling and reporting. Participate in the 24 x 7 on-call support team rotating roster. To deploy and maintain monitoring and reporting services in accordance with the teams set of “best practice” monitoring rules for the devices, servers, operating systems databases and applications being monitored. To build and maintain relationships with various Team Leaders and Service Management (your internal customers) in relation to the services provided by the team. Maintain, tune, patch and upgrade installed monitoring systems and reporting solutions for optimum performance and functionality. Ensure changes are planned and implemented in a sound low risk manner, without creating system outages. Ensure “best practice” systems management monitoring and reporting tooling sets are deployed to all new installations and configured before the new systems are commissioned as “live”. As part of the team, contribute to the creation and upkeep of team documentation (e.g. monitoring systems design, configuration and the “best practice” alerting and monitoring sets as configured). Assist Service Management, Infrastructure support and Application support teams in solving intermittent recurring problems. Provide ad hoc support to support teams when requested (e.g. during system performance degradation and systems error events). Escalate problems and concerns to your Team Leader and / or senior management. To maintain an expert knowledge within the team of technology and industry trends in relation to systems management tools and direction of the services of the team. Provide technical input during analysis phases of new projects to ensure that they are planned and deployed correctly for supportable and maintainable systems.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Experience in configuration, support and deployment with enterprise class Systems Management products like - BMC Performance Manager, with strong working exposure to BMC Event Manager, Portal, Service Impact Manager , ProactiveNet and Alarmpoint/Xmatters. Also have experience in one or more of the following tools – SCOM, TideWay Experience in collecting, packaging and reporting on information gathered from systems management tooling deployed in a high security network operating system environment (hardened operating systems). Expertise in agent based and agent-less data collection. Expertise in portal reporting of systems information. Experience in HTLM web page scripting and publishing skills. Experience in PHP, Pearl and Shell scripting. Programming skills in Visual Basic. Experience covering at least one of the following service lines: Intel, UNIX Systems Admin and Server Management Storage Management. Database Management. Performance and capacity planning. Transaction Monitors, Middleware. Product Lifecycle Management. Some experience in at least one of the following operating systems: Intel Server (Windows Server editions, Novell) UNIX (AIX, Solaris, HP-UX, Linux) Certification in BMC Patrol products, IBM Tivoli or other industry leading systems monitoring products. Certification (Systems Administrator) in one enterprise class operating system technology (e.g. Solaris, AIX, Windows Server) Previous experience of systems management in banking application environments. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Independent and confident, but willing and able to harness the expertise of others. Be able to prioritise tasks and communicate timing of planned deliverables to those requesting them of you. Must be flexible in terms of tasks. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
